How To Find The Model Number On Your Recliner Part
Where to look for the label on motors, hand controls and power supplies, and what to do if it is missing.
The model number is the fastest way to find an exact replacement part. The trick is knowing where to look. Unplug the chair before you reach underneath it.
Where to look
- Motor or actuator: check the label on the motor housing or along the metal tube.
- Hand control: check the back of the switch.
- Power supply: check the flat side of the transformer brick.
- Control box: check the top or side of the box, usually under the seat.
The number on the label versus the chair
The label on a part is not the same as the model of your chair. A furniture brand's model name rarely tells you which motor is inside. Always go by the number printed on the part itself.
Tips for reading a worn label
Use a phone flashlight and take a photo, then zoom in. Write down every number you can see, including any letters and dashes.
If the label is missing
Measure between the mounting points on a motor. On a hand control, count the buttons and note the plug type. Then send photos to a parts specialist, or search what you have in the Part Finder.
