What Does A Recliner Control Box Do?
A plain-English guide to the box under your seat, and how to tell if it is the problem.
Some power furniture uses a control box, also called a junction box. It connects the power supply, hand controls and motors in one place, and is common on chairs with several functions.
Does your chair have one?
Unplug the chair and look under the seat. If several cables meet at a single box, that is it. Simple recliners may not have one.
Signs of a problem
- Several functions stop at once, while the power supply light stays on.
- One hand control or seat stops responding on a chair with multiple seats.
- Moving a cable at the box changes how the chair behaves.
What to check
Reseat each plug on the box and look for bent pins. A loose cable can look like a failed box.
Finding a replacement
Note the model number on the box and photograph the plug layout before you remove anything. Then look through our control boxes. If the number is unreadable, send your photos to a parts specialist.
