Recliner Cables And Plugs: How To Spot A Bad Connection

A damaged cable can look like a dead motor. Here is how to check cables and plugs properly.

Before you replace an expensive part, check the cables. A loose plug or pinched wire can stop a chair completely.

Why cables fail

Cables run close to moving metal, so they can get pinched each time the chair reclines. Pets chewing on them and furniture being moved are also common causes.

How to check

Unplug the chair, then follow each cable from end to end.

Know your plug

Plug types differ between chairs. Compare the number of pins and the shape with your old cable before ordering. Take a photo so you have it to hand.

Replace it, do not tape it

Do not repair a damaged cable with tape. Replace it with a matching part from our hardware and cable range.

If the cables are all fine, go back to our guide on what to do when a recliner won't move.
