Should You Repair Or Replace Your Power Recliner?
How to decide whether a replacement part is worth it, or if it is time for a new chair.
When a power recliner stops working, many people assume the whole chair needs replacing. Often a single part is at fault, and replacing it can keep a good chair going.
Repair usually makes sense when
- The frame and upholstery are still in good shape.
- You like the chair and it still feels comfortable.
- The fault is in one part, such as a hand control, power supply or motor.
Replacing may make sense when
- The frame is cracked or the mechanism is badly bent.
- The upholstery or padding is worn out anyway.
- Several major parts have failed.
How to decide
First work out what has failed. Our guide to what to check first is a good start. Then find the part and compare its price with the cost of a chair you would be happy with.
Think about fitting
Some parts plug in easily, while others need more work. If you would rather not do it yourself, ask a local furniture technician for a quote.
