How To Install A Replacement Recliner Hand Control
A step-by-step guide to swapping a remote safely, plus what to do if it does not work straight away.
Swapping a hand control is one of the easier recliner repairs. Most plug straight in, with no special tools.
Before you start
Make sure the new control matches. Our guide to choosing a hand control explains what to check.
Steps
- Unplug the chair from the wall.
- Take a photo of the old cable and plug.
- Follow the cable to where it connects, usually under the seat.
- Press any latch and gently remove the old plug.
- Connect the new plug firmly, the same way round.
- Route the cable clear of the mechanism.
- Plug the chair back in and test every button.
If it does not work
Check that the plug is fully seated and that the power supply light is on. If the chair still does not respond, the fault may lie elsewhere. Read what to do when a recliner won't move.
Keep your old part
Keep the old control until the new one has been tested, and check our return policy if you need to send the new one back.
